Before you ever decide on a future career, check out reliable resources that provide data regarding future job growth, starting salaries, etc. Plus do some research on transfer colleges; compare colleges so you know the best program costs for you and which colleges have a strong track record of employment after graduation.
Evaluate Job Trends
- Career Outlook: Projections of industry employment 2021-31This is the website for the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. This site provides projected employment change by occupation, occupational group, industry, including job growth and anticipated job openings from 2021 through 2031.
- Jobs Rated Annually: Best Jobs 2021The Jobs Rated Report ranks 200 jobs annually from best to worst jobs. Every year since 1988, the Jobs Rated report has measured different careers through a variety of metrics. Understanding the challenges and rewards of a career is especially important given how vested we are in our work life.
- U.S. News Announces the 2022 Best JobsUS News & World Report publishes an annual ranking of the “best” jobs. Plus find lots of advice and tips about making smart career and job-search
Evaluate College Costs and Employment
- "Reality Check" in Oregon Career Information System.Use the Reality Check tool in Oregon Career Information System to plan a monthly budget (that includes re-payment of any student loans). Check to see how your career choice might pay in Oregon and whether the annual salary will meet your financial needs.
Select the My Courses tab in MyPCC and link to MAP (My Academic Plan). You’ll find the Reality Check tool under the Occupations tab in Oregon CIS. - College Score CardIf you are choosing a transfer school for a four-year degree, you’ll want to check out the College Scorecard. This site is published by the U.S. Department of Education and provides students and families the critical information they need to make smart decisions about where to enroll for higher education. The College Scorecard highlights key indicators about the cost and value of institutions to help students choose a school that is well-suited to meet their needs, priced affordability, and is consistent with their educational and career goals. Each College Scorecard includes five key pieces of data about a college: costs, graduation rate, loan default rate, average amount borrowed, and employment.
