Journals and Periodicals

There are way too many journals specific to the very numerous fields working on and writing about issues connected to sustainability including everything from sustainable development and sustainable business and management to environmental sustainability to eco-­‐literacy to environmental justice, and environmental engineering to name just a very few to produce an exhaustive list. Google “Top Sustainability Journals” and you will get so many lists of journals related to sustainability that it is quite literally overwhelming. Below, however there are a few that will help you get started and are primarily cross disciplinary in their scope or focus on issues of teaching and learning sustainability:


The Journal of Sustainability Education 


On Sustainability: A Collection of Journals 
The On Sustainability Journal Collection consists of four journals and an annual review. The journals in this collection are cross-­‐disciplinary in their scope, a meeting point for natural and social scientists, researchers and practitioners, professionals, and community representatives. The perspectives presented range from big picture analyses which address global and universal concerns, to detailed case studies which speak of localized applications of the principles and practices of sustainability. Sustainability knowledge community creates a place for the publication of papers presenting innovative theories and practices of sustainability.

International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (IJSHE) is the first international scholarly publication to specifically address the need for documentation and the dissemination of research, studies and projects on sustainability matters at higher education institutions. The aim is to provide up-­‐ to-­‐date information on new developments and trends, and to enable networking and information exchange on a global basis.  Authors are invited to submit papers from the following areas:  • Environmental management systems • Sustainable development • Curricular innovation  • Campus greening • Operational aspects of universities • Energy, water, recycling, waste management • Planning and design of campuses • Environmental reports • Environmental policies and action plans • Staff and student initiatives.
