Accelerated English at Chabot College: A Synthesis of Key Findings. Katie Hern. California Acceleration Project. 2011.
There are no separate reading courses at Chabot College. All levels of English integrate instruction in reading, reasoning, and writing. These courses incorporate Reading Apprenticeship as a pedagogical methodology to support students in building their capacity to read and reason at college level.
KEY FINDING: Cohorts from 2000 to 2008 of students who took the self-placed Accelerated English (Eng 102) completed College English (Eng 1A) at a rate 24% higher (on average) than that of students who took the 2-semester sequence.
