AI Tools for Searching

Claude - An AI tool from Anthropic. It is good for interpreting visual data, including charts and graphs. There is a free version. Some users like Claude's facility with language over other AI tools. 

o3-mini - This recent tool from OpenAi represents a new way forward in AI tools: it is a "reflective" tool that shows its thinking rather than just responding to a query. This version is free to use for Chat GPT users, but takes longer than a typical AI agent. 

Perplexity - Perplexity AI is an AI-powered search engine and chatbot that leverages advanced technologies like natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning to provide accurate and comprehensive answers to user queries. Designed to search the web in real-time, it offers up-to-date information on a wide range of topics. With an intuitive user interface, Perplexity AI is a valuable resource for students, researchers, and anyone seeking precise answers supported by citations.

Microsoft Copilot (Bing Chat) - Chat feature works best in Microsoft Edge and stand-alone mobile app. Chatbot powered by Microsoft's proprietary Prometheus, which combines GPT-4 (which also powers the subscription version of ChatGPT) and Bing web search. 

Google Gemini - An AI-driven feature that generates interactive AI snippets to provide users with answers to their queries. Click on the Google "G" icon to examine relevant sources.

Citation and Research Support AI Tools

Consensus - Consensus is a search engine that uses AI to extract and distill findings from peer-reviewed sources. Subject matter coverage ranges from medical research and physics to social sciences and economics. Utilizes the Semantic Scholar dataset.

Research Rabbit - Provide a seed article that allows you to retrieve recommended articles, visualize networks of articles and authors, and get alerts about additional relevant research. Allows for collaborative research sharing.

Semantic Scholar - A project at the Allen Institute for AI, it indexes over 200 million academic papers sourced from publisher partnerships, data providers, and web crawls.

JSTOR Text Analyzer - Built by JSTOR Labs, this tool will analyze a document you upload to recommend related sources on JSTOR. Supports English, Arabic, (simplified) Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
